Communication: the desert is becoming an oasis of fragrant fruits and melons
Egypt Modern Agricultural Greenhouse Project By Sinomach
In October 2017, a group of Chinese agricultural technicians were welcomed to the city of Ramadan, about 90 km northeast of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Since then, the vast desert here has gradually become a modern agricultural production base.
"From construction materials to technical guidance, all come from China." In a greenhouse the size of a football field, Zhang Lin, project manager of modern agricultural greenhouse of China national machinery Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd., told reporters.
In 2016, Egyptian President Ceci proposed to vigorously develop modern agriculture in Egypt and realize large-scale greenhouse fruit and vegetable planting.
In May 2017, Sinomach, with advanced technology, signed a contract with Egypt. In October of the same year, the 10th of Ramadan plot project including greenhouse, service area and sorting, packaging and storage facilities was officially started. Chinese technicians from Sinomach and greenhouse production enterprises entered the construction site to guide local staff to install greenhouse.
"At first, there were only 10 Chinese technicians in the project, and then they increased gradually, and at the most, more than 50 people." Zhang Lin said. At present, the greenhouse installation work has come to an end, and there are 30 Chinese technicians on site.
On both sides of the broad road in the project Park, greenhouses are arranged orderly. Zhang Lin said that since December 2018, most greenhouses have been put into production, planting tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and so on. In addition to meeting the domestic market demand of Egypt, about 15% of these agricultural products are exported to neighboring countries.
In the sorting and packaging area, dozens of local staff sorted and packed cucumber, tomato and other vegetables according to the standard. Zhang Lin said that each greenhouse is also equipped with six to eight maintenance personnel, providing 6000 local jobs in Ramadan city.
"We are very proud of the fact that China's advanced agricultural enterprises and agricultural technology will go abroad through the construction of this project." Zhang Lin said that one belt, one road initiative, is also a win-win concept for Egyptian partners.
Zhang Lin also said that more large-scale projects of Sinomach are still in progress. After the project is fully completed, dozens of square kilometers of desert here will become an oasis with fragrant fruits and melons. (Xinhua news agency, Cairo, April 27, by wire).
